The 14th edition of the Karlsruhe Silent Film Festival will take place March 9 to 13, 2016.
For this edition, we may use anew the ZKM’s Medientheater (media theatre), if only for two days. As the ZKM’s “Globale” event will be ending only in April 2016, we are particularly grateful to the ZKM for its complaisance. The festival’s opening on Wednesday, March 9, will be taking place in the Studentenhaus (student house) as do most of the screenings; besides these, one event will be held in the Kinemathek (cinematheque).
During the preparation of this programme, I realised very early on that, actually, we could show every other film in this topical context. Why? Because film is the medium lending itself like almost none other to the representation of every kind of emotion. In the theatre, the live presence of human beings on stage renders the portrayal of jumps and lapses of time or space virtually impossible. However, the cinema enables practically anything. The camera creates close ups allowing us to perceive a face we need to watch at a much closer range than the stage ever would. Bringing to life the whole panoply of emotions, human faces on the screen appear in enormousness. In this sense, film is the medium of choice for the representation of even the most vigorous of emotions.
The Déjà Vu – Film e. V. and the Kinemathek Karlsruhe cordially invite you to join us at the 14th Silent Film Festival Karlsruhe, full of „History and Film“.
